AI cover letter generator

A cover letter written from your resume and the job ad

After you match your resume to a job description, ResumHero can draft a cover letter for that job. It works only from what your resume says and what the ad asks for.

No card. One resume and two templates on the free plan, for as long as you like.

How it works

The cover letter is the last step of the job matcher, the same tool that tailors your resume to the job.

  1. Match your resume to a job

Paste the job description into the job matcher. It reads the ad and compares it with your resume, which is also what the letter is written from.

  2. Generate the letter

At the end of the match, ask for a cover letter. You get 200 to 320 words aimed at that job, built from your own experience.

  3. Copy it, read it, make it yours

Copy the text with one click into your email or document. Read it through and add your own reason for wanting this job before you send it.

What the generator will and will not do

It will

  • Use only facts that are in your resume.
  • Speak to the job you matched against, not a generic role.
  • Stay between 200 and 320 words, short enough to be read.
  • Give you plain text that pastes cleanly anywhere.

It will not

  • Invent experience, employers, numbers or skills.
  • Leave [brackets] or placeholders for you to fill in.
  • Know why you want this particular company. That part is yours to add.

Good to know

  • It starts from a job match

Each letter belongs to a job you analysed in the matcher, so generating one uses a tailoring run for that job if you have not matched it yet.

  • It is plain text, not a document

The letter is shown in the app with a Copy button. It is not saved as a separate editable document, and it is not exported as PDF or Word; paste it where you need it.

  • Three a month on the free plan

Cover letters have their own allowance of three each calendar month, separate from tailoring runs. Premium, coming soon, will raise it.

Tips for a cover letter that gets read

  • Name the role in the first line

Recruiters often hire for several roles at once. Say which one you are applying for, and where you saw it if that helps.

  • Lead with one relevant result

Pick the achievement from your resume that best answers what the ad asks for, and put it near the top.

  • Add the reason only you know

Why this company, this team, this product? A generator cannot know that. One honest sentence from you is worth more than a paragraph of praise.

  • Keep the tone yours

Read it aloud. If a sentence does not sound like you, change it. The letter should read like the person who turns up to the interview.

Cover letter questions

About the cover letter generator

Is the cover letter generator free?

Yes. The free plan includes three cover letters each calendar month. Each one is written for a job you have matched your resume against.

Does it make up experience to fit the job?

No. The letter is written only from facts in your resume. If the job asks for something your resume does not show, the letter does not claim it.

Can I edit the letter in ResumHero?

The letter is shown as read-only text with a Copy button. Paste it into your email, the application form or a document and edit it there.

Can I download the cover letter as a PDF or Word file?

No. Cover letters are plain text to copy, so they fit straight into an email or an application form. If an employer wants a file, paste the text into a document and save it from there.
